The production of soybean in Bahia
is concentrated in the West, region un-
der constant economic growth, where
agribusiness, especially the grain seg-
ment, is the main driving force behind
the progress. The crop performs the role
as main element that propels the dy-
namics of regional agribusiness, as it
was the first to stand out, and is consol-
idating as the most important produc-
tive matrix in Western Bahia, which ac-
counts for 57% of all soybean produced
in the Northeast.
One of the highlights in the region is
the municipality of São Desidério, fourth
largest producer of the kernel in the Coun-
try. According to the Municipal Agricul-
tural Production Survey (PAM) – Tempo-
rary and permanent crops, released by
the Brazilian Institute of Geography and
Statistics (IBGE), the municipality is the
individual leader of Brazilian agricultur-
al production, registering a 23.3-percent
growth in 2015. The crop that is notewor-
thy is soybean, responsible for 39.6%of all
crops produced.
Western Bahia boasts favorable factors
to the development of soybean crops, a
fact that includes the availability of flat
land and precipitation levels of 1,800 mm
