Logistic challenge
Along with the industry and 14 grain warehousing plants
in Rio Grande do Sul, three of them based in Cachoeira do Sul,
Granol is not considering any interruption to its business ex-
panding plans. Administrative manager Talis Roberto Treichel
insists that the company’s major investment plans are focused
on the logistic modal, via waterways and railways. Based on the
margins of the Jacuí River, one of the most representative wa-
ter source in Rio Grande do Sul, the company has for years been
considering the river as a means of transport. “It would make it
possible to send hundreds of tons of soybeanmeal to the Port of
Rio Grande by boat. This represents a new logistic option, put-
ting less pressure on the busy roadways”, he says.
According to the official, another idea consists in revitaliz-
ing the railway modal from Granol to the railway station. In the
past, the 6.8 kilometer stretch was used by Central Sul, a com-
pany that owned the industrial complex, but has closed down.
“The railway is a problem of concession. It is a pity, this project
has come to a standstill. We are waiting for the green light from
the operating company so that we can start the construction of
our shipment terminal. It is no use investing now, because we
would be running the risk of having to put up with an obsolete
structure”. Treichel reckons that the cost of the freight for a truck
to transport any cargo from Cachoeira do Sul to the Southeast
could be 60%more expensive than by railway.
