Citrus fruits are the highlights in the
fruit supply chain in Brazil. Present in all
states, particularly oranges, they take the
name of the Country throughout the world.
This is especially true in the selective and
much appreciated juice market, of which
Brazilians are by far the biggest suppliers.
Obviously, the success of the nation-
al citrus fruits does not only come from
the oranges. The green color of our lem-
ons is attracting aficionados all over the
world. This is particularly true for Tahiti
lemons, used for preparing the popular
caipirinha, now a real brand name in Bra-
zil and the world. Other much appreciat-
ed varieties include Sicilian lemons and
Rangpur lime, with multiple uses.
If oranges, for juice or table orang-
es, consumed fresh or in the form of sal-
ads, and lemons lead the production and
trade of citrus fruit, it is no reason for dis-
regarding such fruits as limes and grape-
fruit. Both of them already appear in sta-
tistical figures, and have been the subject
for studies and research works.
Effectively present in the everyday cu-
linary habits of most Brazilian people, or-
anges prevail because they can easily be
consumed fresh, processed domestical-
ly, transformed into juices, sweets, jel-
lies and many other delicacies. At indus-
try level, on a large scale, they generate
thousands of jobs and income.
In various states, particularly in São
Paulo, citrus orchards generate jobs
and income, heating up the internation-
al market. In the meantime, research or-
gans and representative entities lend
great support to this sector. Because of
this, with no fancy words, healthy and nu-
tritive, fruits benefit Brazil greatly.

merecido estudos e pesquisas.
Com presença efetiva no dia a dia
dos hábitos culinários do brasileiro, im-
põem-se pela praticidade do consumo in
natura e do processamento doméstico,
transformadas em sucos, doces, geléias e
tantos outros artigos. Na indústria em lar-
ga escala, porém, é que impulsionam a
geração de empregos e de renda.
Em vários estados, com destaque para
São Paulo, os pomares de frutas cítricas nu-
trem a economia regional, aquecendo ain-
da o comércio internacional. E organismos
de pesquisa e entidades representativas dão
amplo respaldo a esse setor. Bem por isso,
sem firulas, saudáveis e nutritivas, elas fa-
